not running when i bought it ... sorda bad because of the purchase price... water in oil and driver´s side axle shaft and tire, hub and all (gone)
I drained the oil first. It was just water until "mayo" came running out of the drain hole. I changed the oil with SAE30 oil but it wasn´t really going to help because it was running through the engine. I knew it wasn´t really helping out getting the sludge out. So i turned the motor over once just to have it move the oil through the engine. I then later added Marvel Mystery Oil to each sparkplug holes so it would clean the engine out. 2-3 ozs in each. I let the oil set up for 2 wks like that and then changed the oil again to Havoline 10w-30 eng., started the jeep up and bam.....side note(charging the battery helped too). Big cloud of blue-black smoke.... she runs now but needs a good engine job.. as budget gets better this will be just a slow project but fun one....I found a d44 on the net for $111 after 7 mths of the willys sat in the driveway while i was at school. As soon as i got out for the christmas holidays i put the axle on myself and more fun began!
Slowly but surely i am getting the work done on this willys...and i am lovin´ it..
Since the d41 axle and water in the oil was a major problem when i first got it i give myself a pat on the back on this project of mine.
for the near future:
new wiring
lockrite in the rear
1" suspension lift
eng. rebuild

update as of august:
dropped the oil pan which was pretty fun in nov ´04. I found that the entire pan had sludge in the bottom of it and that the oil pick up was in bad shape. I used diesel fuel and brake cleaner to clean the crud that was caked on the screen on the oil pick-up... then cleaned the pan with diesel and used a steel brush to scrap the rusty spots on it up....
christmas ´04
new temp gauge and sender
needs: a dang new battery for the old girl.
running Delo SAE30 oil for now on
update 5/05:
new wires...splitfire, new cap, & rotor
(this helped the engine come a life quicker and sounded a bit better...)
